Building ties between Canada and the Philippines 

A historic donation agreement between York University and the Philippine government will enhance academic and research collaborations between the Philippines and Canada related to Filipino history, cultures and society, particularly through the York Centre for Asian Research.

Examining “Reckonings & Re-Imaginings” at Congress

In May 2023, York University hosted Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences, Canada's largest academic gathering, in partnership with the Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences. More than 10,000 participants assembled on York’s Keele Campus to explore the theme "Reckonings and Re-imaginings."

Bringing community together through art  

The Joan and Martin Goldfarb Gallery of York University (GGYU) will usher in a new era for the arts at York University and York Region.  The GGYU has been made possible thanks to a generous $6 million donation from long-time York University supporters, Joan and Martin Goldfarb, who donated $5 million in 2019 to establish the gallery, and an additional $1 million gift at the official groundbreaking ceremony in November 2022.

New research expansion project set to transform global health

A revolutionary new Neuroscience Laboratory and Research Building began construction in August 2022 – the work is part of plans to expand the current Sherman Health Sciences Research Centre by adding a 52,000 square-foot, two-story structure which will foster interdisciplinary research opportunities and provide students with more experiential learning.

Addressing the water crisis 

In partnership with UNITAR and others, York launched a Global Water Academy to tackle diverse aspects of the water sustainability crisis – a key action supporting York’s goals to advance the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and building on York’s rich research expertise in water and sustainability.

Boosting economic growth through equitable procurement

In March 2023, York University and the Canadian Black Chamber of Commerce (CBCC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that aims to reduce barriers to commerce and drive inclusive economic growth.

Strengthening Canada’s academic ties to Asia

York University was an academic sponsor of the inaugural Canada in Asia Conference (CIAC), which took place in Singapore in February 2023. The conference was attended by CEOs, ministers, government officials, university leaders and alumni, with the united goal to strengthen Canada’s ties in the Asia-Pacific region.

With the return of international travel, York University is advancing global engagement through international exchanges and internships. These programs offer life-changing international opportunities to journey to diverse locations, and enable students to enhance their academic growth, career-readiness, and personal development. 

Creating accessible pathways to international learning  

York’s Globally Networked Learning (GNL) program is redefining global education by providing inclusive and accessible international opportunities for students and professors.   Launched as part of the pandemic response in summer of 2020, GNL offers an accessible way to internationalize teaching and learning experiences by combining cross-cultural perspectives with the use of technology.​

Global partnership supports health care transformation in Guyana  

An innovative new partnership between the Schulich School of Business and the Ministry of Health, Government of Guyana is contributing to transformational change in the country’s health care sector.

New Global Strategy magnifies York’s global impact  

In March 2023, York launched Engaging the World: York University's Internationalization and Global Engagement Strategy, 2022-2027, which complements York’s commitment to advancing global engagement as outlined in the Academic Plan 2020-2025. The strategy aims to expand the University's global reach and position it as a positive force for global challenges like climate change, poverty, inequality and political polarization.

Addressing food insecurity 

York University has launched the YUeats program – a value meal program that provides York students with access to healthy, affordable and filling meals for $6.99. The program was launched in response to the 2022 Canadian Campus Wellbeing Survey, which identified food insecurity as a concern for York students.

Fostering inclusion for international students 

LA&PS is fostering international student success with the York First Friend (YFF) program, an innovative program designed to support international students in their transition to university life.

Creating pathways for the next generation of Black business leaders 

The Schulich School of Business, the Ivey Business School and the Smith School of Business have teamed up to create the University Pathways Program to create paths to university business education for Black high school students.
